The Longyan–Xiamen Railway (simplified Chinese: 龙厦铁路; traditional Chinese: 龍廈鐵路; pinyin: lóngxià Tiělù) is a dual-track, electrified, high-speed rail line under construction in eastern China. The line, also known as the Longxia Railway, is named after its two terminal cities Longyan and Xiamen, both in Fujian Province. The line will have a total length of 171 kilometres and accommodate trains traveling at speeds of up to 200 km/h. Construction began on December 25, 2006,[1] and the line is expected to enter into operation in the spring of 2012. From Longyan, in southwestern Fujian province, the Longxia Railway runs to the southeast, crossing the Boping Mountains, and following the Western Stream to Zhangzhou, where it joins the Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway to Xiamen, on the Fujian coast. The newly constructed sections is 111 km in length.[2]
